From unused space to dream wardrobe

When Karin Boo Wiklander redesigned her bedroom, she wanted to create more than just a place to rest. By making better use of the space beneath the sloped ceiling and rethinking the room's storage, a previously hard-to-use area has become part of a thoughtfully designed and highly personal bedroom solution.

Behind the sliding doors is a clothing storage solution featuring Elfa's freestanding system. The sand beige finish gives the wardrobe a soft, elegant look that harmonises beautifully with the rest of the bedroom.

A sleeping nook that makes room for more

Sloped ceilings can make a bedroom both charming and challenging to furnish. For Karin, the solution was to think in terms of additional square metres. By creating a lofted sleeping area, she was able to carve out a separate space for clothes while allowing the bedroom to retain its calm, restful feel.

Elfa's freestanding solution was the natural choice. Because the system stands independently, storage can be planned without relying on wall mounting, while still offering the same smart features. This makes it particularly suitable for spaces where the room's architecture determines how storage can be placed.

A built-in radiator cover can be a nice detail.

A sleeping loft turns otherwise unused space into valuable storage.

A calming bedroom in gentle colours that blend beautifully together.

I love the cosy feeling. The sandy beige colour gives the bedroom exactly the soft and warm tone I wanted.

A bedroom where every space has a purpose

Karin's bedroom transformation shows how a space that may seem difficult to use at first can become a real asset. Rather than letting the sloped ceiling limit the room, she made use of the available space to create a dedicated area for clothing storage.

The result is a bedroom where storage has its place without taking over. A solution tailored to the home, personal style, and everyday needs.

Karin's tips for creating smart clothes storage under sloped ceilings

  1. See the potential in challenging spaces. Sloped ceilings and awkward angles don't have to be wasted space. Consider how these areas could serve a practical purpose.
  2. Start with what needs to be stored. Take inventory of your clothes, shoes, and accessories before planning your storage. This makes it easier to choose the right combination of hanging space, shelves, and drawers.
  3. Think about the room as a whole. Storage is part of the interior design. Materials, colours, and finishes can help create a cohesive look and feel.
  4. Choose a flexible solution. Storage needs change over time. With a customisable system, your wardrobe can adapt to your everyday life.
  5. Make use of the room's full height. Plan for the entire space, not just the floor area. Utilising vertical space can create significantly more storage.
